Tulsi Vivah, Tulsi Shaligram Vivah Katha

The story of Shrihari and Tulsi marriage is from the mythological period. According to Hindu Puranas, which we know as Tusli. She was a demon girl. Whose name was Vrinda. Born in the demon clan, Vrinda Srihari was an ardent devotee of Vishnu.

As soon as Vrinda became an adult, she was married to a mighty demon named Jalandhar. Vrinda was a devout woman besides being an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu.

Due to which Jalandhar became invincible. Jalandhar became proud of his powers and attacked the heaven and took the Dev girls in his possession. Enraged by this, all the gods went to Lord Shrihari Vishnu’s shelter and prayed for an end to the terror of Jalandhar. But to end Jalandhar, it was necessary to first dissolve the saintliness of his wife Vrinda.

Lord Vishnu took the form of Jalandhar with his illusion and destroyed the husbandry religion of Vrinda. Due to which the power of Jalandhar was weakened and he was killed in the war. When Vrinda came to know of Shrihari’s deceit, She said to Lord Vishnu, O Nath, I worshiped you for a lifetime, how did you do such an act with me? Shrihari did not have any answer to this question. They keep quiet and listen.

When Vrinda could not find the answer to his question, he told Lord Vishnu that you treated me like a stone, I curse you that you become a stone.

Lord Vishnu became a stone due to the curse. The balance of the universe began to deteriorate. The gods pleaded with Vrinda to take back his curse. Accepting the prayers of the Gods, Vrinda withdrew her curse. But Lord Vishnu was ashamed because of the deceit with Vrinda, so accepting Vrinda’s curse, he entered his form in a stone called Shaligram. After freeing Lord Vishnu’s curse, Vrinda became sati with Jalandhar.

A plant came out of the ashes of Vrinda. Which Srihari Vishnu named Tulsi and gave a boon that without Tulsi I will not accept any Prasad. Tulsi will be married in my Shaligram form and later people will celebrate this date as Tulsi wedding.

In order to maintain the dignity and sanctity of Vrinda, the Gods married the Shaligram form of Lord Vishnu to Tulsi. On the occasion of this event, Basil is married to Shaligram every year on the day of Kartik Shukla Ekadashi i.e. Dev Prabodhini Ekadashi.
